Monocrotaline (MCT) is a toxin which causes endothelial cell damage leading to PAH in rats within 3 to 4 weeks. The MCT rodent model recapitulates many features of human PAH classified as group 1 PH.

MCT-Induced PAH - Readouts & Application
Readouts:
Systemic Arterial Pressure
Pulmonary Arterial Pressure
Pulse Pressure, PVR
Heart rate (HR) and saturation (SpO2)
Echocardiography; SV, CO, Vmax, PAAT VTi
Application:
MCT reliably increases pulmonary arterial pressure, which can be reversed by vasodilators, such as standard of care sildenafil.
